What your assistant can call
Seven read-only tools. Your assistant chains them on its own — search turns a name into a slug, the get_* tools return the detail.
searchstats:readFind NBA players and teams by (partial) name. Returns slugs to use with get_player / get_team.
list_gamesstats:readSchedule and results for one date (YYYY-MM-DD, default today UTC). Returns game_id for get_game.
get_gamestats:readOne game by game_id: teams, status, score, model projection, and (with picks:read) the model's picks and player prop lines.
get_playerstats:readBio, season averages and recent game log for a player (slug from search).
get_teamstats:readRecord, team stats, roster and latest games for a team (slug from search).
get_leaderboardstats:readTop players by a per-game stat for a season.
get_pickspicks:readCurrent value picks from the HoopMetrics model: game markets (moneyline, totals, handicap) and top player props, ordered by edge, each with the bookmaker selection behind its price (sb_event_id / sb_market_id / sb_selection_uuid). Requires picks:read.
Add it to your client
Every client needs the same URL. On first use it opens the HoopMetrics sign-in, you approve access, and the client keeps the session.
Claude
Open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector and paste the server URL. Claude opens the HoopMetrics sign-in; approve access and the tools appear in your chats.
Claude Code
Add the server from your terminal, then run /mcp inside Claude Code to sign in.
claude mcp add --transport http hoopmetrics https://mcp.hoopmetrics.appCursor
Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or the project’s .cursor/mcp.json). Cursor asks you to sign in the first time.

Questions
What is the HoopMetrics MCP server?+
A Model Context Protocol server that gives AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor or VS Code direct access to HoopMetrics data: NBA box scores, season averages, schedules, leaderboards, game projections and the model's picks.
Is it free?+
Yes. You sign in with a free HoopMetrics account the first time your client connects. There is nothing to install and no API key to manage.
Which clients work with it?+
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth: Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and others. The client discovers the sign-in flow on its own; you only paste the server URL.
How fresh is the data?+
Every answer is a snapshot of the HoopMetrics database. Lines and picks refresh about every 30 minutes on game days, scores every couple of hours and box scores every morning. Each record carries its date or capture time.
Are the picks betting advice?+
No. Picks are model output — research to check against your own judgement and the live price. Betting involves risk; only bet what you can afford to lose.
