Cooper Flagg's 29 and 11 sink Heat 113-109 despite Giannis triple-double
Cooper Flagg scored 12 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter as the Dallas Mavericks won 113-109 in Miami, wasting a 29-14-11 triple-double from Giannis Antetokounmpo and leaving the Heat at 0-4.
Cooper Flagg took over the fourth quarter, and the Dallas Mavericks won 113-109 at the Miami Heat on Monday. Miami are now 0-4 and the only team in the league with four losses and no wins.
Flagg's all-around night
Flagg finished with 29 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks in 39:44, shooting 12-of-23 from the field and 3-of-3 at the line. Twelve of his points came in the fourth quarter on 5-of-7 shooting. That was the stretch where Dallas turned an 84-83 deficit into the win, outscoring Miami 30-25 in the period.
The game was close throughout. Miami led 27-23 after one quarter, Dallas led 53-52 at halftime, and the Heat were back in front by a point after three.
P.J. Washington added 20 points and 9 rebounds and went 4-of-4 from the line. Kyrie Irving scored 18 with 6 rebounds and 6 assists, but shot 2-of-11 from three. Max Christie went 3-of-6 from deep for 11 points. Dallas assisted on 31 of their 43 field goals and made 13 of 14 free throws.
Antetokounmpo's triple-double not enough
Giannis Antetokounmpo did almost everything for Miami: 29 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in 39 minutes on 12-of-23 shooting. He scored 13 in the third quarter to put the Heat ahead. In the fourth he went 2-of-6 for 4 points, and he finished 3-of-7 at the free-throw line.
The line was a team-wide problem. Miami made 14 of 25 free throws (56%), and Dallas won by 4. Davion Mitchell scored 21 on 9-of-15 shooting. Bam Adebayo was held to 8 points on 3-of-10, and Andrew Wiggins missed all five of his three-point attempts. Bobby Portis Jr. added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
